About Giveon
Giveon was always a talented artist, but he got his first break into the music scene when he collaborated with Drake on their 2020 single “Chicago Freestyle”. Later, that same year, Giveon released two EPs that became wildly popular, including When It’s All Said and Done, which reached the top 10 of the US Top R&B Albums chart. Since then, he’s gone on to become a successful artist with a platinum single and other accolades under his belt.
Fans adore Giveon’s baritone vocals and critics applaud his music which shows clear inspiration from 60s and 70s jazz. In fact, Giveon even cites Frank Sinatra, Drake, Adel, as some of his biggest influences.
But let’s see how Giveon grew into the artist that he has today.
Early Life
Giveon was one of three brothers raised by a single mother and he developed his passion for music early on. He often sang at birthday parties and would later credit his mother with giving him the push to develop this love for music and for keeping him and his brothers safe from gang culture and poverty. This allowed him to develop his musical talents throughout his schooling.
2018-2019
In 2018, Giveon released his debut single “Garden Kisses”. Soon after, Canadian record producer Sevn Thomas discovered him on a random playlist and signed him to Not So Fast and Epic Records. Giveon then started performing his original work at live venues before recording them professionally.
Eventually he released his single, “Like I Want You” before serving as an opening act for Snoh Aalegra on her Ugh, A Mini Tour Again of Europe and North America.
Giveon Today
Giveon went on to become an international superstar, including earning his second and third Billboard Hot 100 entries with “Heartbreak Anniversary” and “ILike I Want You” as of the week of February 27, 2021. He even went on to record a track for the film called “Time” which was co-wirtten by Drake.
